WHY PSYCHICS ARE THE NEW PSYCHOLOGISTS

Posted by michellewalter - February 17th, 2008

Why do so many people believe in psychic phenomena? Because they have psychic experiences! And why do they have psychic experiences when science and psychology tells us these experiences are not real? In this article, Michelle Walter explores the reasons for the undeniable popularity of psychics today.

The latest Gallup Poll (Gallup and Newport 1991) shows that about a third of Americans believe in telepathy (psychic ability) and about a quarter claim to have experienced it themselves. Rather fewer have experienced clairvoyance or psycho-kinesis (PK), but still the numbers are very high and have not been decreasing over the years. Previous surveys have found similar results, and also that the most common reason for belief in the paranormal or psychic ability is personal experience (Palmer 1979; Blackmore 1984). In short, people believe in psychic experiences because they have them!

Many people also gain benefit from the use of psychic lines and personal psychics to guide them through their life issues. The success of psychics has been a thorn in the side of psychologists over the years. Recently, on the internet in the US, it was reported that Psychologists in private practice are making less and less money now. So, why the demise of psychology, and the growth in the numbers of people going to psychics in recent years?

How Psychology makes people feel….

Psychology in the past has been based on the medical model. The ‘doctor’, (psychologist or psychiatrist), has superior and specialist knowledge of the human mind and behaviour, and using this training, is able to diagnose the patient (client) and provide a treatment to cure the disease. This medical model treats diseases, not people. Similarly, psychologists are trained to treat mental disorders, which are presumed to have an organic origin, although this is rarely proven to be the case. The disease model, when applied to psychology in particular, has shortcomings:

1. Firstly it fails to treat the person and it looks for dysfunction.

2. Secondly, there is a presumption (rarely proven in psychology) that mental illnesses follow the same pattern in every person. If you have a mental disorder, it will develop in the same way a cold does: you have your cause, your symptoms, your prognosis. However, with issues of the heart and mind, they are not so fixed, nor are they so easy to fix!

Focus on shared life experiences
Surprising experiments in personality psychology showed that people’s response to situations was predicted more by situation than by their personality. In other words, we have more in common with each other when we face similar life circumstances, regardless of our personality. So there is a lot to learn from the experience of life. Not everything can be predicted by measuring aspects of the person. This is because people exist in interaction with life. This is very interesting when you consider the focus throughout history on the sharing of wisdom. Folklore, religion, cultural heritage, stories, and myths exist in every civilisation, as they pass on the knowledge learned from one generation to the next.

Origin Psychics are the new keepers of wisdom
An Origin Psychic is like a guide who uses the shared wisdom in the human race to map different pathways and life choices for people. Psychics have not lost their connection with the lineage of ancient wisdom. In order to do a psychic reading, a psychic will use Tarot images containing the stories told in ancient mythology, the I Ching, runes, and past life stories that draw upon ancient cultures and civilisations. Psychics communicate the messages that will help the person make choices in their life. The psychic is in touch with the shared wisdom of the ages, and can keep this lineage alive, so that people can continue to access this wisdom as they have done throughout the ages.

Psychics read energy, not books, to help people
A psychic is constantly in touch with you. Origin Psychics do not refer to books to discover what your problem is. A psychic can read the energy in a person’s life and then see where that energy is unfolding. So a psychic will deal with each situation as it is being created in that person’s life. Psychic insight enables the therapist to share the client’s space - share their world, share their personal experience, and through that, see a way forward.

The connection is evidenced in the psychic reading when the psychic is able to accurately reflect the details of the situation, either practical, or emotional, as if they were there. This is ultimately reassuring for the client, as the client can then feel a connection with a shared humanity. Instead of being diagnosed and treated as if they are the problem, in a psychic reading, the client becomes part of the tribe again. The wisdom of the collective human tribal experience is available for them, and they can take the answers that suit them.

People aren’t looking for problems - they are looking for answers

You can access the wealth of hidden knowledge within you. All the answers lie within your consciousness. Imagine that your mind is like a doorway to the universe, and if you focus and look within, you can access anything you need. This is the Psychic Origin, where you see the potential within your own mind. When you feel separate and alone, you can’t access this knowledge. At these times, you can link into a psychic friend to help you along the way.

IMAGINARY FRIENDS OR PSYCHIC PERCEPTION?

Posted by gayewright - February 17th, 2008

In this intriguing article, Gaye Wright explores the realm of relationships of a different kind. Do the imaginary friends we have deserve a better explanation? Is it possible that these imaginary friends might be real? What purpose do these imaginary friends play? Are these imaginary friends always in harmony? Is there a bigger picture that tells the real story?

Most parents would prefer that their children did not have imaginary friends. There is a general belief that these ghosts are merely figments of a child’s imagination. It is too challenging for most of us to entertain any alternative explanation.

A different perspective

What alternative explanation are we talking about? What point of view do you have about communications from other beings? I hesitate to call them “beings”, because that word has too many ‘New Age’ connotations. I prefer to call them friends. I have made many new “imaginary” friends over the years in my work as a psychic. Some stay around for much longer than others. My most consistent communications have been with three Chinese sages whom I call my Chums “imaginary” friends. People who experience messages from the Chums feel the validity of the communication. Any initial scepticism on my part did not stand up to the confirmation I received from other people.

Where do the imaginary friends come from?

My Chums “imaginary” friends have come from my past life associations with China and the eastern traditions. I know this because they helped me to reconnect with old knowledge in my body about breathing and movement and this lead to the creation of Origin Dynamics, which we, at Creative Life International, teach in all our seminars, courses and workshops in both Australia and the United Kingdom. Through Origin Dynamics, I have understood and experienced my body differently, and this is how I have dealt successfully with breast cancer.

What about you?

Have you had any signs that someone could be around and wanting to connect? What can you do to be sure that it is a valid communication? Be open. Do not jump to any hasty conclusions. The challenge is to relax and allow your intuitions to flow. This is the only way you can truly begin to discern what the connection might mean. Some communications seem meaningless. It could be that you have linked in with someone from your past, who only wants some help to move on. Accept that not all communications are long term, just as in your everyday life now you have short-term friendships.

Evaluating the communication

We can learn a lot from children. Most children accept their friends more easily. They do not ask for an explanation of background qualifications. Most adults seek some immediate confirmation of each other when it comes to friends. Children usually give each other the benefit of the doubt until something happens to spoil the friendship. Children rely on their gut feelings to let them know the quality of the friendship. When we listen to our intuitions, we can start to evaluate the communication at a more fundamental level than any logic can do for us. The simple question to ask is: “Does this communication feel right? Does this communication empower me into harmony?” If it generates fear, it is not an empowering connection.

Past Life Troubles

Sometimes a communication comes in the form of a trouble-maker who is into pay-back over some past life association. If this happens to you, follow the evaluation test from above. If the connection feels negative, zap it with a beam of light. It does not deserve any more of your energy than what it takes to banish it from your mind.

Future Friends

Some of the friends from your past may be ready to communicate with you now. The “imaginary” friends I am meant to work with have all connected with me spontaneously, sometimes when I have least expected anything to happen. The main thing is to have an open heart and a discerning mind. Use the evaluation questions to determine the quality of the connection. Practise breathing confidence and strength so that your body becomes more and more sensitive to the truth of your own knowing.

PSYCHIC ARTS - ANCIENT ARTS

Posted by bedenicholson - February 17th, 2008

The Psychic Arts have been with us throughout history. In this insightful article, Bede Nicholson explores how intuition still helps us in our everyday lives.

Psychic arts has been with us since time immemorial. From the Native American shamans, to the medicine man of South America, the druids of Europe to the oracles of Asia, as well as the Australian Aboriginal people. Across all cultures, people have accessed their psychic powers to help themselves and their people, and to guide them in their daily lives. Though the myriad of different practices and beliefs, traditions and customs, the one thing shared by all of these cultures was the ability to use their intuition and move into a different realm of consciousness and access knowledge which they could then pass on to others or use themselves. This wasn’t considered spooky or scary - it was a natural part of life that was respected, accepted and recognised as being of great value. Now let’s get things clear. No-one is saying that these people where perfect and everything they saw came to pass. They were just as fallible as us. We live in an ever changing universe and nothing is set in stone. I would imagine that a lot of their rituals and customs became rigid and restrictive and in the end probably blocked out a lot of real intuitive insight. There was probably also a lot of political wrangling and manoeuvring, which would have distorted or biased certain insights. So looking at it from today’s point of view, you can say that not much has really changed, as we still can operate out of rigid and restrictive beliefs, and there is always a certain amount of political manoeuvring going on. The one thing that has changed is the lack of intuitive insight and guidance in our everyday lives.

How did we get to a stage where we no longer value or give credence to psychic insights? In our Western civilization, the erosion of insight started with the centralization of the Church. From the 4th century AD, as the Church spread out from its Roman base, there was a gradual integration and suppression of the various cultures it encountered. The Church in its quest for supremacy and control, quashed local customs and beliefs in its drive for homogenous religion. This is exemplified in the dismantling of the Celtic Church in Britain, which for a time still integrated old customs and beliefs from Druidic times into the new vision of Christianity. The next subjugation of intuition came with the development of scientific imperialism. Within this paradigm, if something couldn’t be proven through scientific experiments, then it could not exist. Anything to do with intuition or psychic ability was criticised and dismissed. This attitude has continued to today. Even though quantum physics has shown that there can be many different levels of reality, this has not quite sunk through and been accepted by other levels of the scientific community.

So, where does that leave us today with regards to psychic work? People have used their intuition through the ages. Leaders of various countries have always had advisors next to them who can work at an intuitive level, so there has always been an informal acknowledgement that these abilities are useful. Sometimes they were celebrated for it, sometimes persecuted. In recent years, there has been an upsurge in people wanting to develop their own intuition and psychic abilities, as well as using services like our own. This has come from an acknowledgement that there is something out there that can be of benefit, which is beyond rational thought and perception, and which can provide guidance and insight into our lives.
